VARIOUS OF SMOKE RISING FROM SITES OF ISRAELI ATTACKS AS DISPLACED PALESTINIANS TRYING TO RETURN TO THEIR HOMES IN NORTHERN GAZA GAZA, PALESTINE - OCTOBER 9, 2025: The Israeli army continued its assaults on the Gaza Strip on Thursday, Oct. 9, despite a ceasefire agreement to end a 2-year genocide in the besieged Palestinian enclave, medics and witnesses said. Displaced Palestinians who were attempting to return to their homes in northern Gaza from the south were attacked by Israeli forces, according to local sources. Anadolu correspondents on the ground reported that, following the announcement of the anticipated ceasefire deal, many Palestinians displaced by months of Israeli bombardment tried to make their way back toward the north of the territory. Israeli forces targeted civilians attempting to cross toward Gaza City along the coastal al-Rashid Street. Troops stationed in the area blocked the road and fired tank shells at the section where people were trying to move north. Witnesses said panic spread as Palestinians fled the area amid ongoing attacks, while Israeli soldiers continued to prevent movement toward northern Gaza. The latest Israeli attacks came despite a ceasefire agreement reached early Thursday between Hamas and Israel in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh city, based on a plan presented by US President Donald Trump. The 20-point plan, first announced on Sept. 29, includes the release of all Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, a ceasefire, the disarmament of Hamas, and the rebuilding of Gaza. Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed nearly 67,200 Palestinians in the enclave, most of them women and children. The relentless bombardment has left Gaza largely uninhabitable, leading to widespread starvation and diseases.
