Brazilian tourist arrested for 'attacking policeman' in Thai Sin City Pattaya
A Brazilian tourist was arrested for allegedly attacking a police officer in Pattaya.
Dayane de Paula Gomes Silva, 31, from Taubate, was stopped by cops who caught her riding a motorcycle the wrong way down a road without a helmet.
They flagged the 'tomboyish' tourist in the early hours of October 13 to warn her, but she reportedly refused to cooperate and lashed out.
Dayane was said to have punched Police Lieutenant Siwakorn Somsura in the face and spat at him, prompting police to drag her to the Pattaya City Police Station.
Footage shows the defiant Brazilian, with a short haircut and tattoos across her arm, refusing to enter the station. She told police 'don't touch me, I'm here' as she struggled against them.
She was later cuffed and hauled into detention cell.
Police Lieutenant Siwakorn said: ‘We put her into a cell and charged her with assaulting an official while performing his duty, resisting an official, riding a motorcycle against traffic, and not wearing a safety helmet.'
Tourists are regularly attacked or caught up in crime, leading Pattaya to be dubbed 'Sin City'.
Embarrassed officials in the central government have launched tourism initiatives to attract families and rebrand Pattaya as a safe destination.
Authorities have also introduced safety measures, such as improved lighting and CCTV.
Despite some success in cleaning up the town's image, alcohol and sex remain its biggest draws, often leading to a high rate of crime and accidents.
