Indian families celebrate Diwali with religious displays at home
Indian families marked Diwali with colourful religious displays and rituals at their homes.
Footage shows a worshipper performing a traditional ritual in front of a decorated puja table, illuminated with small oil lamps and candles during the festival on October 20.
Diwali is a Hindu festival of lights, celebrated by Indian religions such as Jainism and Sikhism. The celebration symbolises the spiritual 'victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.'
In Ayodhya, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, celebrations were especially prominent. Hindus believe the town is the birthplace of Lord Ram, who returned there after 14 years in exile.
Locals lit rows of earthen lamps to honour his homecoming and mark the occasion.
