This is the shocking moment a coconut nearly hit a holidaymaker as she was lounging under a tree.

Zayda Mae was resting at the beach during her birthday when the nut fell from the peduncle just inches away from her on El Nido Island, in Palawan, the Philippines.

Footage shows the coconut rolling down the branch and speeding toward the ground behind Zayda at 7 Commandos Beach on October 5.

She can be seen watching as the fruit narrowly misses her and lands on the sand.

Zayda said: 'My whole life flashed before my eyes while I nervously laughed at the situation. I thought it would be my first and last solo trip, and that my life would end exactly in my 28th year.

'I'm grateful to the people beside me for asking if I'm okay, and to the others for joking around to ease the situation. I packed up moments later, joined my group on the tour, and told our tour guides what happened.'
