Storyline: China's green transition gains momentum during 14th Five-Year Plan period [Voice_over] Renewable energy now constitutes about 60% of the total power capacity of the country, with non-fossil fuels making up around 20% of all energy consumption. The green manufacturing sector has expanded dramatically. From 2021 to 2024, production of solar cells grew at an average annual rate of 45%, while output of bio-based chemical fiber surged by approximately 90%. The past five years represent China's fastest period of low-carbon transition. The nation has established over 6,400 national-level green factories, accounting for more than a quarter of manufacturing output, and launched the world's largest carbon market, covering over 60% of its emissions. The transformation is clearest in transportation. New energy vehicle sales skyrocketed from 3.5 million in 2021 to over 12 million in 2024. Their market share exploded from just 5.4% in 2020 to 45.5% in the first eight months of 2025, meaning roughly one in ten vehicles on Chinese roads is now electric. Meanwhile, experts are optimistic that the country's green technology sector is now entering a rapid growth phase. [Sound_bite] Yang Kaizhong, Professor, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences: "We are transitioning from an explosive phase to a rapid growth stage in green technology. Beyond infrastructure, our technological, financial, and institutional safeguards are now more mature. The pillar role of green, low-carbon industries in our domestic economy will become even more prominent." [Sound_bite] Wan Jun, Senior Fellow, Chinese Academy of Environmental Planning: "Over the past decade, through our proactive policies, super-sized market, and nationwide innovation, we have significantly reduced the global costs of green and low-carbon transition."
