Dublin, Ireland - October 24, 2025 Voters are heading to the polls in Ireland today to cast their ballots in the presidential election. Polling stations across the country have been open since 7am and will close at 10pm. If the opinion polls are anything to go by, Catherine Connolly will be replacing Michael D Higgins as Uachtarán na hÉireann, with support for the Independent candidate far ahead of her Fine Gael rival Heather Humphreys. An unusual feature of this election is the fact that Jim Gavin, who withdrew from the contest earlier this month, is still on the ballot paper.
