- ROME, ITALY — OCT. 28, 2025: Pope Leo XIV attended the annual Meeting for Peace event at the Colosseum in Rome on Tuesday, Oct. 28, calling for an end to wars.

During the closing ceremony of this year’s gathering, titled “Daring Peace,” participants observed a minute of silence in memory of those who lost their lives to war, terrorism, and violence.

Emphasizing that the world is "thirsting for peace", the pope said, "Enough of war, with all the pain it causes through death, destruction and exile! Gathered here today, we express not only our firm desire for peace, but also our conviction that prayer is a powerful force for reconciliation."

Pope Leo XIV further underlined the responsibility to act against war.

“To put an end to war is a solemn duty before God incumbent on all those holding political responsibilities... As religious leaders, this is the heartfelt appeal that we make to those in positions of government. We share the desire for peace for all peoples. We are the voice of those who are not heard and the voiceless. We must “dare peace!" he added.

Representatives from various religions also took part in the event.
