- GAZA CITY, PALESTINE — NOV. 8, 2025: Reda and Hamed Aleva, a grandmother and grandfather in Gaza, are struggling to look after 36 children under desperate conditions after losing five of their own to Israeli attacks.

"My eldest son was killed while trying to bring medicine for his father from the Baptist Hospital", Reda Aleva said, adding that she kissed him goodbye at the hospital in pain.

They lost four more of their children in a subsequent Israeli strike while about 46 people were sheltering in a single tent. The couple is now solely responsible for caring for all their grandchildren.

"The ceasefire existed only on television. In reality, the bombing never stopped. Every day there was shelling, every day fear," she lamented.

Under the first phase of Gaza ceasefire, Hamas released 20 Israeli captives alive and handed over the remains of 26 out of 28, most of them Israelis, in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinians.

The second phase of the plan envisages the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism without Hamas.

Since October 2023, Israel’s genocidal war has killed more than 69,000 people and injured more than 170,600, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
