A fire erupted on the 55th floor of the iconic Marina Bay Sands luxury hotel in Singapore.

Dramatic footage captured plumes of smoke billowing from the high-rise on Tuesday, October 28.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said the blaze was caused by a burning plastic mat around 3:30 pm local time.

A spokesman for Marina Bay Sands said: 'The fire was in a location not accessible by guests and was put out by a team member quickly before the arrival of the SCDF.

'Nobody was injured in the incident. We are working closely with the authorities to investigate this incident.'

Preliminary findings indicate that the fire likely originated from welding works being carried out nearby.

Marina Bay Sands is one of Singapore's most recognisable landmarks, a world-famous integrated resort featuring three hotel towers connected by a rooftop SkyPark, as well as a casino, convention centre, shopping mall, and infinity pool overlooking the city skyline.
