China's National Games celebrated a milestone on Sunday as its first cross-boundary torch relay was held simultaneously in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, one week ahead of the Games. Following the launch ceremony in the southern coastal city of Shenzhen on Sunday morning, the torch relay started in Hong Kong, Macao, Guangzhou and Shenzhen - four key cities of the Greater Bay Area. The relay had 200 torchbearers, with 50 running in each city. The Shenzhen leg holds particular significance, coinciding with the 45th anniversary of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone this year. The city's 45-kilometer-long route symbolically reflects this milestone, combining approximately five kilometers of running with about 40 kilometers of aerial transmission. The torch relay in Shenzhen featured many innovative technological elements, including a humanoid robot that led the procession during the opening ceremony, capturing the spotlight of the event. The Guangzhou leg of the relay connects historical treasures like the Ming Dynasty City Wall with modern architecture and creations. The rally route in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has showcased its landmarks, starting from the government headquarters in Tamar and ending at Kai Tak Sports Park. The relay spanned both sides of Victoria Harbour, passing by iconic must-see sites along the way. In addition to running, ferries and buses were also used in the torch relay. The relay of the Macao leg took place on the Macao Peninsula, covering around 2.6 kilometers. It linked numerous iconic historical and cultural landmarks in Macao and vividly highlighted the city's unique charm as a confluence of Chinese and Western cultures. Following the relay, the torch flames from the four cities converged in Guangzhou later on Sunday afternoon, at Guangdong Olympic Sports Center to be merged into a single flame, which will light the main cauldron at the opening ceremony of the 15th National Games on November 9.
