This is the nerve-wracking moment a quick-thinking woman pulled a pensioner from train tracks seconds before a train sped by.

A group of pedestrians was walking across the level crossing when the elderly woman attempted to cross on the opposite side of the platform moments before the locomotive passed by in Moscow, Russia.

CCTV footage shows the commuter behind the senior citizen grabbing her by the arm and dragging her off the tracks.

The traveller managed to pull her out of the way just as the train raced past them at Bolshyevo Station on November 4.

The pensioner reportedly failed to notice the warning lights flashing and the train's horn sounding.

No one was injured in the incident.

Russian Interior Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk praised the woman's quick thinking and bravery.

She said: 'I admire the reaction and courage of the girl who saved the elderly woman at the Bolshyevo station in the Moscow region. Even a small mistake can cost a life. There might not always be such a guardian angel nearby.'
