Ed Davey Urges Government To Revisit Electoral Reform And Scrap First-Past-The-Post. Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey says he is ready to “work with the government” to overhaul the UK’s electoral system and move towards proportional representation. The Lib Dems have long argued that the current first-past-the-post model fails to reflect how people actually vote, giving larger parties a disproportionate share of seats. Speaking on the BBC’s Political Thinking podcast, Sir Ed said he hoped the prospect of a Reform UK majority might persuade Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to “think again” about electoral reform, a pledge Starmer made when running for Labour leader in 2020 but later abandoned. Under proportional representation, the number of MPs a party wins would mirror its national vote share. While Sir Ed didn’t specify which version of PR he supports, he said his party remains fully committed to change, adding he would “work with the government if they wake up.” Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
