Storyline: Blue lobsters enter harvest season in S China [Voice_over] It's another busy day at this fishpond in south China's Guangdong Province, one of the country's largest for blue lobsters. From September to November, it's harvest season. And this year farmers have been pulling out hundreds of kilos of lobsters per day. Fresh from the pond, traders snap-up the delicacy in bulk to sell to restaurants and wholesale markets across the country. One farmer said prices are up this year compared to last, at about eight U.S. dollars per kilo. [Sound_bite] Chen Guorong, blue lobster trader: "From September to October, crayfish from Hubei and Jiangsu Province decreased. So, restaurants cook blue lobsters instead of crayfish. The sales this year increase 30 to 40 percent compared to last year." [Voice_over] The lobsters get their coloring from a genetic mutation that causes them to overproduce a protein, which turns them blue. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
