BRUSSELS, BELGIUM - NOV. 18, 2025: The UN’s special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, said there is “no ceasefire in Gaza,” warning that civilians are still in danger despite calls for de-escalation.

"There is no ceasefire. Since what is called ceasefire, 270 Palestinians have been killed and 635 have been injured. Gaza is a wasteland of rubble and human remains," Albanese said.

She was addressing an event, titled 'Palestine, International Law, and Europe’s Role' held in Brussels on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

Albanese also urged the EU and its members to fulfill their international obligations on Gaza and Palestine.

The Israeli army launched a brutal offensive on Gaza in October 2023, killing more than 69,000 people, mostly women and children, injuring over 170,000 others, and reducing the enclave to rubble.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 266 Palestinians have been killed and 635 others injured by Israeli fire since the ceasefire took effect on Oct. 10.

Phase one of the ceasefire deal includes the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The plan also envisages the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism without Hamas.
