US, Los Angeles: Castaic New USPS Oshkosh Truck Makes Rare Appearance On Local Streets
Los Angeles, United States - November 19, 2025 11/19/2025 11:27 am GMT-0800 CASTAIC, Calif. – The United States Postal Service’s long-awaited next-generation delivery vehicle made a rare appearance on local streets Thursday, after residents in Castaic spotted one of the new trucks driving through the area. The vehicle is part of USPS’s Oshkosh NGDV program, a fleet designed to replace the decades-old Grumman LLVs that have served as the agency’s primary delivery trucks since the late 1980s. The new platform introduces a wide range of modern features — many of which were visible during today’s sighting. The NGDV features a higher, more spacious cabin with significantly improved driver visibility, a large front windshield, and a higher seating position. The design includes sliding side doors, increased cargo capacity and enhanced ergonomics for carriers. The trucks also support air conditioning — a first for USPS’s core delivery fleet — along with modern safety upgrades such as collision-avoidance technology, backup cameras and automatic braking. Under the multi-billion-dollar USPS contract, Oshkosh Defense is producing both internal-combustion and fully electric versions of the vehicle, with the long-term fleet expected to shift increasingly toward EVs as production scales. It’s unclear whether the truck seen in Castaic was part of testing, training or logistics movement, but USPS continues limited rollout and evaluation ahead of wider deployment nationwide in the coming years.
