Hero local rescues dog stranded in raging typhoon floods
A heroic local waded through a raging flood to save a stranded dog during Super Typhoon Fung-wong.
Aldrin Sarte clambered from the second floor of his home when he noticed the pooch struggling in the fast-flowing deluge that engulfed Albay, Philippines.
Footage shows Aldrin taking big but careful strides in the brown water. He held onto an electrical post for support before reaching for the canine.
Aldrin then lifted the Aspin on his side and took it to safety with him in their house on November 9.
The Good Samaritan said: ‘Around 7 am, the water suddenly surged onto all our streets. I was on the second floor of our house when I noticed the dog I saved during the flood.'
The youngster and the pooch, along with the other trapped pets he found that morning, were all safe.
Fung-wong was the biggest storm to threaten the Philippines this year, with a 1,600-kilometre (994 miles) rain and wind band that covered nearly two-thirds of the archipelagic nation.
Locally known as 'Uwan', it made landfall as a super typhoon in Aurora province on the evening of November 9, prompting the evacuation of nearly a million residents.
The Office of Civil Defence said at least 18 people were killed while 2.4 million were displaced in the onslaught as Fung-wong triggered large storm surges and widespread flooding.
State weather bureau PAGASA said the typhoon has weakened as it exited the main island Luzon. Fung-wong was churning over the South China Sea and is predicted to move towards Taiwan.
The storm struck immediately after Typhoon Kalmaegi hammered the Philippines, killing 224 people.
The Philippines is prone to typhoons because it lies along the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean within the typhoon belt, where tropical storms frequently form and intensify.
