Heavy Snowfall Transforms Albany, Minnesota, as First Major Winter Storm Sweeps the Region
Script:
Heavy nighttime snowfall blanketed Albany, Minnesota, as the season’s first major winter storm intensified across the Upper Midwest. Filmed by 16-year-old aspiring meteorologist Monty Snowman Hickman at Albany Legion Memorial Park, the scene shows thick, continuous flakes falling over snow-covered evergreens, holiday-lit streets, and a church steeple — capturing both the beauty and severity of the developing blizzard.
Snow in Albany had already climbed past three inches by late evening, with rapid accumulation and low visibility marking the storm’s peak hours. Local reports indicated widespread totals of 3–5 inches across central Minnesota, with surrounding areas registering even higher amounts as lake-effect bands strengthened. Nearby communities such as Baxter reported more than 10 inches as the system expanded.
The storm, arriving just ahead of Thanksgiving, disrupted travel plans across the region. Strong gusts, deteriorating road conditions, and whiteout pockets led to school closures, advisories, and travel restrictions in affected counties. Monty’s footage reflects the contribution of citizen observers during significant weather events, documenting the storm’s real-time impact as winter takes an early and forceful hold over Minnesota.
