As two tourists driving go-karts became stuck on Tokyo's Shibuya crossing, an unlikely hero came to their rescue.

Footage filmed by @mikelstuhl shows the moment a man in wheelchair immediately rolled into the middle of the road to help separate the stuck go-karts.

On his way back to the pavement, he was applauded by hundreds waiting to cross the tourist hotspot.

The filmer told Newsflare: "While the green light for cars was still on and hundreds pedestrians were waiting on the sidewalks, filming and watching, a man in a manual wheelchair suddenly rolled straight onto the crossing despite the red pedestrian light, positioned himself next to the two stuck karts and – with incredible strength – single-handedly lifted/pushed the upper kart off the lower one in just a few seconds.

"The lane was free again immediately.

"As soon as he rolled back to the sidewalk, parts of the crowd started clapping and cheering for him like he was a superhero."
