China's logistics sector continued to expand in November, with demand and investment indicators pointing to steady growth, according to data released on Wednesday by the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP). Logistics demand kept rising in November and the outlook stayed upbeat, with the business volume, new orders, employment and activity expectation indices all remaining in an expansion range, the federation said. The logistics industry's prosperity index stood at 50.9 percent in November, up 0.2 percentage point from the previous month, remaining in an expansion zone. A reading above 50 indicates expansion, while a reading below 50 reflects contraction. In November, the business volume indexes in central and western China stood at 51 percent and 51.2 percent respectively, above the national average, while the business volume index in eastern China registered 50.5 percent, edging up 0.1 percentage point month on month. "[The growth rates of business volume] in the eastern, central and western regions of China are all stable in the expansion range, showing a balanced and coordinated development trend," said He Hui, vice chairman of the CFLP. Compared with October, the logistics demand for industrial products picked up in November, while the logistics demand for energy and materials continued to decline, the data showed. The data also showed that sectors including transport equipment, household appliances, furniture, smart devices, automobiles and auto parts maintained solid logistics demand in November. Offline physical stores and e-commerce platforms were all advancing in parallel in the month. The total business volume index of the postal and express delivery industry reached 70.2 percent in November, down 0.3 percentage points from its peak. In November, investment in the logistics industry remained buoyant, according to the federation. The logistics sector's fixed-asset investment index stood at 55.4 percent in November, well within the expansion range. The business activity expectation index was 54.9 percent, remaining in the expansion range in November. Sub-sectors including multimodal transport, aviation logistics and postal express maintained strong expectations, providing support for industry confidence in the month. "Judged by the investment index and the expectation index, they both remain within an expansion range, indicating the industry's relatively strong confidence in future development of the market," He said.
