2. GREVIN MUSEUM EXTERNAL RELATIONS DIRECTOR VERONIQUE BERECZ SPEAKING TO REPORTER PARIS, FRANCE - DEC. 7: The Grevin Museum in Paris features nearly 250 wax figures depicting historical personalities, cultural icons and contemporary public figures, offering visitors what the museum describes as a “three-dimensional book of history.”

Founded in 1882, the museum displays wax models of artists, political leaders, scientists and celebrities. The collection includes figures such as Victor Hugo, Nelson Mandela, Marie Antoinette, Charlie Chaplin, Albert Einstein and Naomi Campbell.

Princess Diana’s wax figure, which joined the exhibition last month, draws particular attention for featuring her well-known black “revenge dress.”

The museum also houses a historic marble staircase and a century-old theatre integrated into the visitor route.

Grevin Museum External Relations Director Veronique Berecz said the institution was originally conceived as a way for the public to visualize personalities featured in newspapers at a time when photography was limited.

Berecz noted that creating a wax figure takes about six months and involves detailed measurements, 3D imaging and handcrafted sculpting. While figures’ bodies are made from plastiline, the heads continue to be produced in wax to allow for precise facial finishing and hair application.

Berecz added that the museum continues to update its collection with new figures that reflect current cultural and political life, keeping the institution connected to modern audiences.
