Workers were stranded on the roof of a burning building when a drone battery caused a fire that ripped through a factory in Indonesia today.

Harrowing footage shows workers calling for help as flames and smoke engulf the structure, leaving at least 22 people dead.

The blaze reportedly began on the ground floor of a seven-storey office building owned by the Japanese firm Terra Drone Corporation in Jakarta.

Footage shows thick dark smoke engulfing the compound, with flames pouring out of several windows of the property on December 9.

At least 22 people were confirmed dead, and more were trapped on various floors of the building during the evacuation.

Central Jakarta Police Chief Kombes Susatyo said: 'All bodies were taken to the National Police Hospital. Currently, the screening is ongoing, being conducted floor by floor. The firefighting team is still at work.

'Hopefully, the full number of victims will be confirmed soon, as there are quite a large number of employees in this office.'

Initial investigations indicate that a drone battery may have started the fire on the ground floor, which then spread to the upper floors. The investigation is still ongoing.
