The opposition alliance said the ruling Morena party violated an agreement to establish the new transparency body on a tripartite basis, prompting lawmakers to seize the podium.

The proceedings descended into turmoil as legislators from both sides confronted each other, with shouting, pushing and physical scuffles breaking out.

As tensions escalated, female lawmakers Daniela Alvarez, Yuriri Ayala, Martha Avila, Rosario Morales and Claudia Perez fought around the table, pulling each other’s hair, pushing and shouting, while some legislators tried to separate them and others attempted to record the moment on their mobile phones.

Amid the disorder, the session was halted and later moved to another location to resume deliberations, according to local media reports.
