Los Angeles, United States - December 17, 2025 12/16/2025 10:30 pm GMT-0800 HESPERIA, Calif. – California Highway Patrol officers from Ventura initiated a pursuit of an SUV on Tuesday evening after observing the vehicle driving without its lights on and blowing a stop sign. The chase transitioned onto multiple freeways as it crossed into Los Angeles County and then San Bernardino County, lasting nearly two hours. The suspect took the northbound 15 Freeway from the 10 Freeway in Ontario. CHP officers attempted to deploy spike strips to disable the vehicle, but were unsuccessful. However, CHP units from the Hesperia Area office successfully spiked the vehicle on the northbound 15 Freeway at Oak Hill Avenue. The suspect's SUV was left with two front tires deflated. Instead of stopping, the suspect turned around and began traveling southbound on the 15 Freeway from Oak Hill Avenue. Officers attempted several Pursuit Intervention Techniques (PIT), but the vehicle did not come to a stop. The suspect then crossed into the northbound lanes of the 15 Freeway and continued southbound in oncoming traffic approaching the 138 interchange. A CHP officer positioned northbound on the 15 Freeway near the 138 conducted a traffic break to halt all northbound traffic, preventing a potential head-on collision with innocent motorists. The officer then collided head-on with the suspect's vehicle, resulting in a crash that caused the CHP patrol unit to veer off the hillside, approximately 25 to 50 feet down. The suspect exited the vehicle and engaged in a struggle with officers as they attempted to take him into custody. Two officers sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital, while the suspect was also taken to the hospital for his injuries. A Sig Alert was issued for one hour for the northbound 15 Freeway just north of the 138, while the two right lanes of the freeway remained open for traffic.
