DAMASCUS, SYRIA - DEC. 18: Greek Orthodox Christians in Syria are continuing Christmas preparations at the Mar Elias Church in Damascus, which was targeted by a militant attack in June, as worshippers prepare religious displays to mark the holiday despite ongoing restoration work.

At the church in the Douweila district of Damascus, a Nativity scene representing the birth of Jesus was set up in the lower section of Mar Elias Church.

The display features miniature models reflecting the Grotto of the Nativity in Jerusalem, a Christmas tree, and a designated prayer area symbolizing the prayer of the Virgin Mary during the birth.

The scene aims to convey a message of faith and peace despite the suffering and hardships experienced in the area.

A large Christmas tree placed at the entrance of the grotto has drawn visitors to the church for prayer and photographs.

The ISIS carried out an attack on Mar Elias Church on June 22, killing 25 people and injuring 60 others.

Restoration work at the church is ongoing.
