RUSSIA - DEC. 22 - RESTRICTION: USERS MUST CREDIT “UNITED AIRCRAFT CORPORATION (UAC)” HANDOUT, MUST NOT OBSCURE LOGO —EDITORIAL USE ONLY— A Russian Su-57 fighter jet completed its first test flight equipped with a new fifth-generation engine known as “Izdeliye 177,” according to Russia’s state defense conglomerate Rostec.
The flight marked the start of flight testing of the engine within the Su-57 fifth-generation aircraft program, carried out by specialists from United Aircraft Corporation and United Engine Corporation.
The aircraft was flown by Russian test pilot Roman Kondratyev. Rostec said the flight was conducted according to the planned mission and proceeded normally.
Rostec stated that the new engine is designed to enhance the aircraft’s performance and will be used in fifth-generation aviation platforms.
