A fighter jet pilot was killed in a crash in Algeria.

Lieutenant Colonel Bakkouch Nasr, piloting a Sukhoi Su-30, died when the aircraft plummeted into a deserted area just seconds after taking off from Reggane Airbase in Aoulef, Adrar, on March 19.

Footage shows thick black smoke rising from the burning wreckage, prompting nearby villagers to immediately alert the police and fire department.

In another clip, firefighters can be seen dousing the flames with a water hose.

Local media reported that during takeoff, the pilot struggled to stabilize the aircraft due to low altitude, high speed, and a full fuel load, leaving little room to manoeuvre before the disaster.

Meanwhile, the second crew member reportedly managed to eject safely.

The incident marks the second Sukhoi Su-30 crash in Algeria, following a fatal accident in Oum El Bouaghi province in January 2020 that claimed two lives.
