Grandfather severely burned as boiling soup pot tips over at market while buying food
A grandfather was covered in serious burns when he stumbled into a large pot of boiling soup at a market in Thailand.
Sanong Sriklin, 80, was buying dinner when he lost his balance near a row of street food stalls in Samut Prakan province on December 23.
He was said to have tripped on the uneven pavement before accidentally tipping over a heavy pot filled with freshly cooked soup for sale.
The boiling liquid splashed over his body, leaving him screaming in agony as shocked vendors rushed to his aid. He also suffered facial abrasions when he hit the ground.
Medics later arrived and gave the pensioner first aid.
Gruesome footage shows them placing gauze patches onto his body, as strips of his skin were seen peeling away.
Before being taken to the hospital, the dazed grandfather said: 'It was very hot, so hot that it caused burns. I didn't grab the pot. I hit against it.'
The soup stall owner, who was also injured, said her pot was full as she had not yet opened her shop.
She said: 'I didn't see because I had my back turned. I heard someone scream, the customer was screaming so I turned to check and saw the pot had already fallen.I couldn't pull it back up.
‘He came that way and tried to walk up, but he tripped and stumbled and tried to grab the handle of the pot. He definitely grabbed the pot because normally, it wouldn't have flipped.
‘I have been selling soup here for over 10 years and have never encountered anything like this. I saw the old man and felt sorry for him.'
