Capturing the height of the storm’s fury, Yasser Alkhader’s vivid clips show Times Square transformed into a glowing winter scene — neon lights cutting through thick, falling snow, traffic stalled under accumulating flakes, police lights reflecting off icy streets as snow rapidly builds up.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for New York City and surrounding areas, with the National Weather Service forecasting several inches of snow — potentially the heaviest snowfall the city has seen in nearly four years. Accumulations of 5–9 inches are expected across the NYC area, with locally higher amounts possible — a level not seen in the city since early 2022.
Officials have declared states of emergency in both New York and New Jersey as part of storm preparations. Road crews and snowplows are being deployed across the region, and travel advisories urge residents to stay off icy roads as conditions deteriorate.
The storm has also caused widespread disruption to holiday travel, with hundreds of flights canceled or delayed at JFK, Newark Liberty and LaGuardia airports — part of more than 1,800 cancellations nationwide associated with the system.
As the snow continues into Saturday, visibility remains low and travel hazardous, marking one of the most impactful winter systems to hit the Northeast this holiday season.
