Buenos Aires, Argentina - December 26, 2025 Argentina on Monday marked 21 years since the deadly fire at the República Cromañón nightclub in Buenos Aires, one of the country’s worst non-natural tragedies. The blaze broke out on December 30, 2004, during a rock concert after a flare ignited flammable ceiling materials, killing 194 people—mostly young concertgoers—and injuring hundreds. Survivors and relatives of the victims held commemorative events and marches, renewing demands for justice, accountability and stronger safety controls at entertainment venues. The tragedy exposed serious failures in fire safety regulations, inspections and emergency exits, leading to legal convictions and lasting changes in public safety rules across Argentina.
