8. VARIOUS OF STRONG WINDS SHAKE DISPLACED FAMILIES’ TENTS GAZA, PALESTINE - DEC. 29, 2025: Displaced Palestinian families living in Wadi Gaza are facing severe humanitarian conditions on Monday, Dec. 29, as heavy rain and strong winds have battered the area for four consecutive days.

Continuous rainfall and floodwaters flowing through the valley have inundated tents sheltering displaced Palestinians, sweeping many of them away and leaving families homeless once again.

Mohammed Abu Huli, a displaced Palestinian living in Wadi Gaza, said residents have been struggling to cope with the situation.

Abu Huli stressed that their suffering is not new, recalling that in the summer they struggled with mosquitoes and saying that they are now battling floods flowing from the valley toward the sea, to the extent that even the sea can no longer absorb this amount of water.

Wadi Gaza Municipality Mayor Jaber Abu Hajeer warned that the risk of flooding increases further with the onset of winter.

Abu Hajeer said the Israeli army opens dams holding accumulated rainwater in an unplanned manner once they are full, causing large volumes of water to flow toward Wadi Gaza.

He noted that the sudden water discharge has led to flooding along the valley bed, submerging vast agricultural lands and inundating tents housing displaced Palestinians living nearby.

Abu Hajeer added that families are forced to set up tents in these dangerous areas due to the lack of alternative safe locations.

Weather conditions pose great danger to displaced Palestinians who are living in worn-out tents or severely damaged high-risk buildings, which have been under repeated Israeli strikes since October 2023.

The Israeli army has killed more than 71,200 people, mostly women and children, and injured over 171,200 others since October 2023 in Gaza in a brutal assault that also left the enclave in ruins.

Despite a ceasefire that took effect in Gaza on Oct. 10, Israel still closes the territory’s crossings and prevents the entry of mobile homes and reconstruction materials, worsening the plight of nearly 2.4 million people in the enclave.
