This is the shocking moment a cheeky wild monkey suddenly grabbed a woman's skirt as she walked through a forest.

Esay Rabang and her friends were touring the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary in Bali, Indonesia, when the primate lying on the wooden walkway latched onto the back of her fuchsia pink maxi dress.

Footage shows Esay strolling along with her companions, even posing for the camera while her friend films from behind on December 24.

Moments later, the long-tailed macaque chased her and clamped both hands onto the fabric of her dress.

Terrified by the encounter, she attempted to run away, but her friend urged her to walk slowly and remain calm.

The man can be heard saying: 'Just walk straight and don't stop,' before giggling at the animal's antics.

The monkey eventually gave up, released its grip on the dress, and wandered away.

Esay did not sustain any injuries during the incident.

Monkeys, like other animals, may attack when they feel threatened. Risks from monkey bites include serious wound infections, the herpes B virus, and rabies.
