TIRANA, ALBANIA - JANUARY 6, 2026: Heavy rainfall across several Balkan countries, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Albania, Kosovo, Croatia and Montenegro, has triggered flooding and disrupted daily life across the region.

In Albania, the cities of Durres, Lezhe and Shkodra were among the worst affected, with authorities reporting that floodwaters inundated homes and agricultural land in some areas.

Officials said houses were flooded in several locations and some families were evacuated as a precaution.

Schools were closed in Durres and Lezhe, while heavy rain in the capital Tirana caused traffic disruptions.

Albania’s Institute of Geosciences warned that intense rainfall is expected to continue, particularly in the northern and southern parts of the country, over the coming days.
