Fish crawl along muddy road after rainfall in China
On December 26, 2025, in Guangdong Province, located in southern China, a video showed a line of shiny black fish moving across a muddy country road. The fish advanced slowly in an orderly row.
Viewers identified the species as “climbing perch” , which is a species of amphibious freshwater fish in the family Anabantidae and known for crawling onto muddy ground after rain in search of water.
Their hard bodies allow them to move without fear of rough surfaces. Chinese netizens remarked that nature is full of unexpected sights. The unusual behavior drew widespread curiosity online.
