Terrifying ice surge caught on camera as tourists flee for their lives after calm river suddenly explodes into dangerous torrent
This is a thrilling video that occurred in Kanas, Xinjiang. On January 5, 2026, while tourists were taking pictures in the lower reaches of the Kanas River, a seemingly calm river suddenly experienced an ice run, with large amounts of water carrying ice blocks rushing downstream.
The photographer explained that they saw others going down to the river to take pictures, so they also stopped to check it out, but they didn't expect the river to be so treacherous.
When they heard someone nearby exclaim in surprise, they realised the dangerous situation and immediately shouted for people to leave quickly and promptly pulled the people in front up. Just as they got up, the river channel was filled with ice run, and the scene was very dangerous.
Ice run refers to the phenomenon of ice blocks, ice flowers, etc., flowing with the water when the water body begins to freeze as the winter temperature drops.
