This is the dramatic moment a convoy of snowploughs clears powder from the airport runway in France following winter storms.

Footage shows the line of snow-clearing machines sweeping fresh ice from the tarmac.

Reports said the airport community, including 500 additional volunteers, was fully mobilised at Paris-Orly and Charles de Gaulle Airports on January 7.

The extreme conditions are part of Storm Goretti, a rare cold snap sweeping across Western Europe.

The storms caused the cancellation of more than 100 flights at Charles de Gaulle and around 40 at Orly, while Eurostar train services were also disrupted.

In south-west France's Landes region, three people died, and 15 were injured in road accidents on Tuesday. Two further fatalities occurred in weather-related incidents around Paris.
