SUMY REGION, UKRAINE (JAN. 10, 2025) (USERS MUST CREDIT “DSNS” HANDOUT – DO NOT OBSCURE LOGO – FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY) Russia attacked the residential sector of Hutir-Mykhailivska community in Ukraine's Sumy region on the night of January 10, causing damage and fires but no casualties, authorities said Friday.

"There is damage and destruction with subsequent fires. Rescuers extinguished all fires. No people were injured," Ukraine's State Emergency Service said in a statement.
Russian forces shelled 12 settlements in the Sumy region nearly 30 times over the past 24 hours, with no civilian casualties reported, according to the Sumy Regional Military Administration.

"During the day, from the morning of January 9 to the morning of January 10, 2026, Russian troops carried out nearly 30 shellings of 12 settlements in nine territorial communities of the region. The most shelling was recorded in the Sumy and Shostka districts," the administration said on Facebook.

Settlements in the Krasnopillia, Myropil, Yunakivka, Shalyhyne, Esman, Druzhba, Seredyna-Buda, Znob-Novhorod, and Velyka Pysarivka communities came under attack.

US-led efforts to end the war in Ukraine have continued since President Donald Trump began his second term nearly a year ago, but have yet to produce concrete results.

Russia has said any peace settlement should recognize its control over Ukrainian territory captured since the war began in 2022, establish a neutral status for Kyiv, and impose limits on the Ukrainian military.

Ukraine has called for robust security guarantees and remains undecided on any territorial concessions.
