Various of plane of Copa Airlines Storyline Panama's Copa Airlines resumed its route between Panama City and Venezuela's capital Caracas on Tuesday, after a 40-day disruption linked to escalating geopolitical tensions. The Panamanian flag carrier halted its Caracas flights out of safety considerations in early December following reports from pilots of intermittent instability in onboard navigation signals. The situation intensified dramatically on Jan 3, when the United States launched a large-scale military operation against Venezuela, taking by force Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife. As the route was restored, a China Central Television correspondent, traveling from Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Tuesday boarded the inaugural post-suspension flight in Panama City's Tocumen International Airport, a major aviation hub in Central America. The flight was notably full, with many passengers being Venezuelan nationals returning home after extended periods abroad. "I'm just going back to see my family. I'll leave again on Jan 22. I think the U.S. policy needs to change. They've started taking direct action against Venezuela and have even forcibly deported people who have no criminal records or legal charges against them," said Marquez, a Venezuelan passenger waiting at the Tocumen International Airport. "I don't know what's happening with my family. I was away from home for traveling," said another Venezuelan passenger, Gregorio. Besides Copa Airlines, several other international carriers, such as Iberia Airlines of Spain and Air Europa, have also announced plans to gradually restore their flights to Caracas.
