United Kingdom - January 19, 2026 Predannack, Cornwall, UK – Aviation history was made as the UK’s first fully autonomous full-size helicopter, the Proteus Technology Demonstrator, completed its maiden flight above Predannack airfield. Designed and built by Leonardo for the Royal Navy, Proteus can operate autonomously while also working alongside crewed aircraft such as the Merlin Mk 2. The successful flight marks a key milestone in developing uncrewed aerial systems for future hybrid air wings.
