A stunning timelapse captures vibrant green auroras rippling across the night sky above the Phare de l'Île Vierge lighthouse in Brittany, France.

The breathtaking display was filmed during the night of January 19–20, 2026, as a rare and powerful solar storm pushed auroral activity far south of its usual polar regions.

The phenomenon was triggered by strong coronal mass ejections from the Sun, sparking a severe geomagnetic storm rated G4 on NOAA’s scale. As a result, auroras became visible across large parts of Europe, including France, an uncommon sight and the first such event recorded in the country in 2026, according to Météo-France.

Set against the historic lighthouse — the tallest stone lighthouse in Europe — the glowing sky created a surreal and unforgettable scene.
