DANISH FOREIGN MINISTER LARS LOKKE RASMUSSEN SPEAKING AT PRESS CONFERENCE (Danish) STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN - JAN. 22, 2026: Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said on Thursday, Jan. 22, that Denmark, Greenland and the United States needed to establish a constructive dialogue, after US President Donald Trump eased new tariffs on Europe.

Speaking after meeting Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard in Stockholm, Rasmussen welcomed Trump’s discussions with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on Greenland, while stressing more work lay ahead.

“Today was a good day. The situation this morning is better than yesterday,” Rasmussen said, adding that Denmark, Greenland and the United States now needed to establish a healthy dialogue.

Stenergard said Sweden viewed ties with the United States from a long-term perspective despite criticism of Trump’s comments on Greenland, calling Washington important for Sweden and underscoring the need to remain committed to transatlantic cooperation.

Greenland has attracted Trump's attention due to its strategic Arctic position, extensive mineral resources, and alleged concerns about a growing Russian and Chinese presence.

Denmark and Greenland have rejected proposals to sell the territory, reaffirming Danish sovereignty over the island.
