This is the moment locals took to sledging and skiing on snow-covered streets in Philadelphia.

The heavy snowfall turned downtown roads into an improvised winter playground on January 25.

Footage shows one resident in winter clothing sitting on a red plastic tube, sliding slowly down the snowy surface.

Another holidaymaker was tied by a rope to the back of a vehicle, being pulled along the slippery ground.

Spectators watched from the roadside as the pair glided and swayed across the snow-covered streets.

The winter storm has blanketed much of the US, caused widespread power outages, and disrupted travel across the Northeast and South.

Local media reported that at least 29 people have been killed across the country due to the storm.

Since Friday, more than 20,000 flights have been cancelled as a result of the freak weather.
