Dramatic CCTV footage has emerged from China of the terrifying moment a heavily-armed gang smashed up a busy restaurant with machetes, demanding protection money, in Shaanxi Province earlier in December.

Mr Tang, the owner of the restaurant in the province's capital, told local media that five to six men armed with long blades and sticks rushed in during peak time on Tuesday, 16 December. They reportedly took straight to trashing the business, barely saying a word, but nobody was seriously hurt.

Mr Tang is reported to have been running the restaurant for around a year without threats, but said other local business owners had paid up thousands of yuan monthly (1,000 Yuan = £103) to the gang. Police are investigating the incident.
