A forest fire threatened the village of Weigeng in Yuxi, Yunnan province. Upon receiving the mission, 145 firefighters from the Pu'er Forest Fire Brigade quickly arrived on the scene.

After surveying the surrounding area, they found that although the fire line was less than 500 metres from the village. The blaze was relatively weak and suitable for suppression, as it was a downhill fire with wind speeds of 4 to 5 on the Beaufort scale.

However, just as the team was preparing to start their firefighting work, the wind suddenly changed direction and the fire quickly intensified. The wind speed increased to above 8 on the Beaufort scale, and the downhill fire became an uphill fire, which spread to the mountaintop.

Due to the preheating phase, the fire quickly escalated into a rare explosive burning situation, with flames reaching over 200 metres high and rapidly approaching the Pu'er Forest Fire Brigade.

Liu Dongjun, the political commissar of the Pu'er brigade, explained that the accumulated humus in the valley is much thicker than usual and the dry conditions are severe, combined with the high temperature in recent days, which created a rare and extreme danger beyond their conventional recognition.

The explosion occurred suddenly, and the fire burned from the bottom of the valley to the mountaintop, a distance of about 1 kilometre in less than two minutes. In the critical moment, the firefighters immediately ordered an evacuation. The team quickly assembled and moved to the central open space, seeking cover to resist the high-temperature radiation caused by the explosion.

After scientific command and emergency response, all firefighters were able to narrowly escape the danger. The fire gradually subsided after 10 minutes of explosive burning, and firefighters successfully extinguished the fire that threatened Weigeng Village.

The video was filmed on April 13 and provided with local media’s permission.
