South African Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula, went on a train ride with a contingent of journalists from the Chris Hani Station in Khayelitsha, which was supposed to end at Langa Station. The Minister and the media had to disembark at Philippi Station after an accident prevented the train from completing its journey.

Mbalula was accompanied by a throng of journalists, as well as officials from PRASA (Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa), union officials from SATAWU (South African Transport and Allied Workers Union), and the commuter organisation United Commuters Voice (UCV).

Activist group Unite Behind handed over a memorandum of demands at Chris Hani Station and Mbalula gave assurances that he would be further engaging the group in order to fix problems at PRASA.

Mbalula addressed a press conference at Langa station after providing a shuttle to the media to meet him there.
