Serious road traffic collision closes a busy Leeds Road

A road traffic collision has closed a busy road in Leeds this morning (Sunday 17th May) after a vehicle left the road and went down an embankment. The vehicle was also on fire, but at this time, it is unclear what's happened. The burnt out shell of the vehicle can be seen from a nearby footpath. Local footpaths were also closed near to the accident next to St Aidan's Nature Reserve. The accident happened on Astley Lane between Allerton Bywater & Swillington around 7am. Recovery of the vehicle took place around 1pm. Police have not released a statement at this time.
