Cleaner gets foot stuck in escalator
A man's foot was amputated on Sunday after it became stuck in a shopping centre escalator in Shanghai.
35-year-old cleaner Zhang Shisheng, was mopping the escalator on Saturday evening at the Cloud Nine Shopping Mall, according to local media.
CCTV footage showed Zhang put a mop at the joint of the top platform to sweep the steps.
He stepped on the mop and it suddenly became stuck in the space between steps and the top platform. The step then flipped, and his left leg was trapped inside.
Zhang was able to stop the escalator by pressing the emergency button and was freed by firemen 20 minutes later, according to local media.
He was taken to a local hospital where his foot was amputated.
The escalator was made in 2004 and had passed its latest safety check in June, according to local media.
