A pet dog was rescued after falling 100ft down a cliff next to a sea in Devon, England.

The playful Spaniel named Yogi was walking with his owner along the trail when he slipped off the cliff above St Mary's Bay in Torbay on August 16.

Yogi landed on the base of the cliff and suffered a fractured spine, rib and eye injuries. There was a danger he could be washed into the sea and drown.

Worried owner Emily Linehan immediately called the emergency services before a team of rescuers from the RNLI arrived on a lifeboat to save the dog.

Pet owner Emily said: ‘I'm so grateful to the crew. There are no words for how I feel right now.

‘I'm so impressed with how kind everyone was – all the crew were amazing. Yogi wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the RNLI.'

The rescue volunteers from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) climbed up the rocky terrain upon finding the injured dog.

A crew member retrieved the frightened dog out from the cliffs and gently carried him on board the boat.

Lifeboat helm James said: 'We're just so glad we found him quickly as he was cold and shaking as well as injured. We wish him all the very best and the fastest possible recovery.'

They then took the pooch to the vets where he was confirmed to have suffered serious injuries.

Emily added: ‘It looks like he's going to make a full recovery and will be able to run like he could before. He's a very lucky boy.'
