Padang City Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) official named Basril said, "We urge the public to remain vigilant and report to us if they need help."

The heavy rains have also caused landslides and trees to fall.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) released a weather forecast for the city of Padang on an orange map, which means rain and wind will last for a long time.

High-intensity rains that flushed the western Indonesia from Friday afternoon to evening have flooded several areas.

Children, the elderly, women and the sick are priority rescue amid the alarming flood heights.

Padang City Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) official, Basril, said the rain that didn’t let up until the evening forced the residents of the flooded houses to immediately evacuate to a safe place.

"We urge the public to remain vigilant and immediately report if they need help," Basril added.

Officials noted that the flood heights varied, ranging from knee-high for adults to one meter.

In addition to flooding, heavy rains have also caused landslides and fallen trees.
