A tourist threw a stone at a resting lion to provoke it, sparking outrage in eastern China.

Video filmed in the city of Yantai in Shandong Province on March 28 shows a man throwing a stone at a tiger resting in its enclosure and saying: "I could eat it if it was released from the enclosure".

A Nanshan Zoo staff member has condemned the visitor's actions, calling them "unethical" and vowing to tighten surveillance measures to prevent such incidents from happening again.

The video sparked outrage on social media across China. One angry netizen commented online: "Throw him into the enclosure to feed the lion."

Another said: "Put him in jail."
