World's largest twin-oared dragon boat sets sail in China
The world's largest and longest twin-oared dragon boat set sail ahead of the Dragon Boat Festival (June 22) in southern China.
The video was filmed in the city of Yiyang in Hunan Province on June 12. A super-long dragon boat measuring 99.9 metres in length and 1.88 meters in width, capable of accommodating 400 paddlers at once, officially made its debut on the river.
The spectacle attracted a large crowd of spectators. It is reported that this dragon boat is currently the largest and longest twin-oared dragon boat in the world, aiming to break the Guinness World Record for the longest dragon boat.
The ceremony for the debut of the 100-metre twin-oared dragon boat at the north shore of Lanxi Town began at 8:00 in the morning. The new dragon boat is finely crafted, with the dragon head looking majestic and vibrant, and the scales of the tail vividly coloured, demonstrating impressive grandeur.
The culture of twin-oared dragon boats in Lanxi Town has a long and storied history, with records of dragon boat rowing dating back to the Three Kingdoms period, a unique local tradition.
The so-called twin-oared dragon boat refers to those where some rowers stand and others sit - standing rowers are called standing oars, and sitting rowers are called sitting oars.
In 2016, the twin-oared dragon boat was included in the fourth batch of Hunan Province's Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
It is reported that the dragon boat race will be held on the day of the Dragon Boat Festival on the Lanxi River, where 22 teams will perform in the order of a random draw.
